Estonia-based Eesti Telekom, one of the largest telecommunication companies in the Baltics and a member of TeliaSonera Group, has announced a formal completion of a merger with AS EMT and Elion.
Eesti is a parent company of both AS EMT and Elion. AS EMT is Estonia’s mobile operator which was founded in 1991 as a joint company of Eesti Telekom and TeliaSonera while Elion, which is also owned by Esesti, provides telecommunications and internet services.
The aim of the merger is to create a company that offers all IT and telecom services across the whole market: internet, mobile voice and internet, TV and IT, it says. All the employees of EMT and Elion will be consolidated under one structure. Currently Eesti employs over 2,000 people. The company names EMT and Elion will disappear, however the brand names EMT for mobile service and Elion for broadband services and IT will remain in operation as Eesti already owns these trademarks.
The legal merger of companies is a natural follow-up to the cooperation between the companies which started last year. EMT and Elion began to offer joint services by launching joint stores and a joint corporate customer service unit. “The aim of the merger is to become even more client-oriented, to offer both residential and business customers the broadest package of high quality telecommunications and IT services, solutions, and content. By operating as a joint company, we combine our strengths in technology, innovation, ability to invest, and human knowledge. As a result, we will create a new generation telecoms company in Estonia to provide the largest value on the market and to further information society,” says Valdo Kalm, CEO of Eesti Telekom.
