Cubbit’s $12.5m funding round signals wider MSP opportunity

Cloud data storage provider Cubbit is promising plenty of channel opportunities following a $12.5m funding round.

With the new funding the company says it will enable European MSPs and enterprises to “take back full independence and control” of their data, infrastructures, and costs.

Cubbit enables MSPs, VARs, SIs and enterprises to create, “in just minutes”, it says, their own geo-distributed S3-compatible object cloud storage, that can slot into any infrastructure and policy framework - from hybrid clouds to the edge. With its DS3 Composer, Cubbit combines a proprietary data orchestration platform and its data fragmentation and geo-distribution technology.

The result is a sovereign, “hyper-resilient”, flexible, and “highly cost-efficient” cloud storage service, that protects European data on behalf of service providers and end customers.

The funding round was co-led by LocalGlobe and ETF Partners, who were joined by others, including Verve Ventures, 2100 Ventures, Hydra, Growth Engine, Eurenergia, and Moonstone.

The new cash will enable Bologna, Italy-headquartered Cubbit to grow across Europe, initially focusing on the DACH and French-speaking regions, as well as the UK. The company says it currently has 350 business customers, who are supported by several international partnerships, including HPE, Equinix, and distributor Exclusive Networks.

“Enterprises worldwide don’t need just another cloud provider, they require a cloud enabler that allows them to implement the custom IT infrastructure strategy they are looking for - organisations need to keep full control over their data in order to simplify their workflows and reduce costs,” said Alessandro Cillario (pictured), co-CEO and co-founder of Cubbit.

“With no upfront investment required, DS3 Composer is ready-to-use SaaS software that empowers MSPs, system integrators and VARs to effortlessly become independent object storage cloud providers, with direct customer relations, and higher profit margins,” said Cubbit. “In minutes, partners can innovatively transform their business with their own white-labelled object storage, creating new revenue streams by offering their customers a fully-customisable, comprehensive cloud experience, with all the benefits of traditional cloud services and on-premise products.”

By building dedicated, certified storage regions for specific industries, like healthcare, the public sector, manufacturing or media and entertainment, for instance, Cubbit partners can configure distributed networks entirely suited for regional regulations impacting that sector, added the supplier.
