French data centre services firm Data4 has announced the purchase of 77,000 square meters of land for the development of MIL02, a new data centre campus to be built in Vittuone, near Milan.
The €500m investment is part of the group's Italian expansion project, and aims to strengthen its presence and competitiveness in the market, by redeveloping former industrial areas to support the country's digitisation.
The company aims to offer its customers access to a European network of ultra-connected infrastructure, thanks to its data centre campuses across France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Poland and Luxembourg.
Construction of MIL02 is scheduled to be completed in early 2027. It will have a capacity of 15MW and, following its completion, will enable Data4 to create synergies between two Italian campuses.
Once all the buildings are completed, the Vittuone site will have four data centres, with a total power of 100MW. Data4 will then have 18 data centres in total across Italy, with total power of around 300MW.
Davide Suppia, country director, vice president of sales at Data4 Italy, said: "For the development of our digital infrastructure in Italy, Data4 plans to invest €1 billion between 2023 and 2029.”
