Markets round-up for the week: 10 January

Tata Consultancy Services’ third quarter results saw revenue go up globally by 4.5% in constant currency, reaching $7.54 billion. The operating margin for the third quarter was 24.5%, down on the 25% for the same period last year.

-The global PC market in 2024 was marked by “stabilisation” and ended “on the road to recovery” and a commercial refresh cycle in 2025, according to analyst house Canalys.

The PC market achieved its fifth consecutive quarter of growth in Q4, with total shipments of desktops, notebooks and workstations rising 4.4% to 67.4m units. Notebook shipments (including mobile workstations) reached 53.7m units, growing 5.8%.

Desktop shipments (including desktop workstations) fell 1% to 13.7m units. 2025 is expected to be a year of “accelerating growth”, as the Windows 10 end-of-support deadline last October “pushes hundreds of millions of PC users” to refresh their devices, said Canalys.

-Cohesity has expanded the Cohesity Cyber Event Response Team (CERT) service to include partnerships with leading incident response vendors, such as Palo Alto Networks Unit 42, Arctic Wolf, Sophos, Fenix24, and Semperis.

Cohesity says CERT augments the traditional incident response process, infusing rich data and backup and recovery expertise, helping to speed investigations and enable customers to recover quicker from incidents.

Cohesity CERT is available to all Cohesity customers as part of their existing subscription.

-UK-based Oracle cloud and database services specialist DSP has acquired fellow UK Oracle Cloud Services partner Acardia, further strengthening its position in the Oracle ecosystem.

-Synology, the network-attached storage (NAS) provider, has announced the launch of its ActiveProtect product in the UK.

ActiveProtect is Synology's new off-the-shelf product which integrates enterprise-scale data backup, recovery and management into one unified solution.

Building from Synology's experience working with small- to medium-sized businesses, ActiveProtect is built on being “fast, visible and available” for businesses, whether they’re scaling or existing large-scale enterprises, public sector organisations or education institutions.

-TD Synnex Maverick, the specialist professional audiovisual and collaboration business of distributor TD Synnex, has signed an extended agreement with Samsung for its range of professional displays, including large format display (LFD), LED, interactive flat panel (IFP), and hospitality TV solutions.
