Global consulting and IT services firm Accenture is cutting almost 900 jobs from its Irish operations, which are used to serve both the domestic market and business across Europe.
The cuts represent about 13% of Accenture’s Irish workforce, and they are part of the 19,000 global layoffs announced by the company this March, as it seeks to cut its total global headcount by 2.5%.
Accenture currently employs around 6,500 in Ireland, and the relatively high percentage cull is probably down to the fact it is a service hub for pan-European operations, which like most regions has seen an overall downturn in IT services business.
