Amazon to invest in France after tax dispute settled

Third largest market for Amazon in Europe

Amazon will create 2000 permanent contract positions this year in France, its largest market in Europe after Britain and Germany. That will bring its total number of permanent local staff to 7500 after investing over €2bn in France since 2010.

The increase will bring Amazon’s total number of permanent French staff to 7,500 in 2018 and reflects confidence in the economy of a country where the retailer invested over €2bn since 2010, the company said in a statement. Earlier this month Amazon settled a long-running dispute with French tax authorities, who had been seeking nearly €200m from the online retailer.

Separately, CNBC has disclosed that the tech giant partnered with BofA on Amazon Lending, a scheme that provide loans for small businesses that sell on Amazon.com.
