Amazon.com has reported solid annual sales growth for its second quarter, ended 30 June, 2023.
Net sales increased 11% to $134.4 billion in the quarter, compared with $121.2 billion in second quarter 2022.
Amazon Web Services segment sales increased 12% year-over-year to $22.1 billion.
Group operating income increased to $7.7 billion in the second quarter, compared with $3.3 billion in second quarter last year.
The North America operating income was $3.2 billion, compared with an operating loss of $0.6 billion last time. The International segment operating loss was $0.9 billion, compared with an operating loss of $1.8 billion in second quarter 2022.
The AWS segment operating income was down to $5.4 billion, compared with an operating income of $5.7 billion last year.
Group net income was $6.7 billion in the second quarter, compared with a net loss of $2 billion last year.
Andy Jassy, Amazon CEO, said: “We continued lowering our cost to serve in our fulfilment network, while also providing Prime customers with the fastest delivery speeds we’ve ever recorded.
“Our AWS growth stabilised as customers started shifting from cost optimisation to new workload deployment, and AWS has continued to add to its meaningful leadership position in the cloud with a slew of generative AI releases that make it much easier and more cost-effective for companies to train and run models.”
