Semiconductor company AMD has acquired hyperscale solutions provider ZT Systems for $4.9bn, boosting its data centre AI capabilities.
This acquisition follows over $1bn in recent investments by AMD to strengthen its AI ecosystem.
“Our acquisition of ZT Systems is the next major step in our long-term AI strategy to deliver leadership training and inferencing solutions that can be rapidly deployed at scale across cloud and enterprise customers,” said AMD Chair and CEO Dr. Lisa Su.
ZT Systems will join AMD's Data Center Solutions Group, with CEO Frank Zhang and President Doug Huang leading key divisions.
Zhang said: “AMD shares our vision for the important role our technology and our people play designing and building the computing infrastructure powering the largest data centres in the world.”
AMD plans to find a strategic partner for ZT Systems' U.S.-based data centre manufacturing business.
