Atea buys Lithuanian cloud business

Norwegian company buys business for regional data centre and people

Nordic and Baltic supplier of IT infrastructure Atea has bought Lithuanian IT outsourcing and cloud provider UAB Baltnetos Komunikacijos (Baltneta) for an estimated value of €10.4m.

Baltneta, which employs around 120 people in its Vilnius-based datacentre, is also the highest certified datacentre in Lithuania and offers still significant vacant capacity, it says.

Atea has built its strategic business on the cloud and hopes that the acquisition will help it expand datacentre capacity as private, hybrid and public cloud solutions for its clients in the Baltics. Additionally, Atea expects to benefit from additional synergies resulting from cross-selling possibilities as Baltneta’s solutions are tailored mostly for the SMB market while Atea has an established customer base across the larger enterprise and public segments.

Baltneta’s revenue stood at €7.2m at the end of 2014 and is expected to reach €8.3m in 2015. The company was founded in 1996 and serves currently around 3,000 customers.

Atea has decided that all the present management members will keep their jobs.

Norway-based Atea, which is also listed on Oslo Stock Exchange, operates in six more markets which cover Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia where it hires a combined number of over 6,500 people.
