Following the launch of its first 16 Local Zones in the US, Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of Amazon, plans to bring new AWS Local Zones in 32 new locations in 26 countries over the next two years.
AWS Local Zones enable clients to leverage core AWS services locally while seamlessly connecting to the rest of their workloads running in AWS Regions with the same elasticity, pay-as-you-go model, application programming interfaces (APIs) and toolsets.
The 32 new Local Zones will be based in Amsterdam, Bangkok, Berlin, Bogotá, Chennai and Copenhagen among other locations, AWS said.
AWS manages and supports Local Zones, it says, which means customers don’t need to incur the expense and effort of procuring, operating and maintaining infrastructure in various cities to support their low-latency applications.
“With the success of our first Local Zones in 16 US cities, we are expanding to more locations for our customers around the world who have asked for these same capabilities to push the edge of cloud services to new places,” said Prasad Kalyanaraman, VP of infrastructure services at AWS.
Some of the companies currently using AWS Local Zones include Netflix, Couchbase, Supercell and FOX Corporation.
