BT has announced it has moved to the next phase of its Green Tech Innovation Platform, which sees the firm working with scale-ups to develop tech to support the race to Net-Zero.
The first phase fostered a series of green innovation partnerships, with BT already supporting Glasgow-based scale-up iOpt and Denmark-based scale-up Everimpact.
The next phase will see it develop new digital solutions to support Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) manufacturing businesses as they seek to adopt more sustainable manufacturing processes.
The platform will focus on addressing three main areas within FMCG manufacturing, including circularity and supply chain, production resource optimisation, and operation design and planning, BT said.
“Through expanding our innovative approach to green technology, we’re accelerating action to address climate change while supporting start-ups and scale-ups as they look to take their new solutions to market,” said Dean Terry, MD corporate and public sector at BT. “In line with the BT Group Manifesto announced last year, this further demonstrates how we’re committed to creating future digital services that will support our customers in driving quicker progress towards a circular world with Net-Zero emissions.”
BT is collaborating with the Manufacturing Technology Centre on the new phase of the project and continuing its work with Plug and Play, an innovation platform headquartered in Silicon Valley, to support the selection of scaleups.
“We recognise manufacturing has a vital role in driving down carbon emissions,” said Joseph Darlington, director of technology sectors at Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC). “Being part of BT’s Green Tech Innovation Platform initiative is an excellent opportunity for the MTC to contribute to the development of digital green technology and the technology supply chain we believe will be transformational to the manufacturing sector.”
Scale-ups will have the opportunity to partner and work collaboratively with BT and its customers, and BT is inviting scale-ups to apply for participation in the Green Tech Innovation Platform.
