Business connectivity operator Citymesh has boosted its IoT services offering with the acquisition of Belgian Sigfox operator ENGIE M2M.
The global Sigfox network is ideally suited for IoT projects that use ultra-low bandwidth and which need long battery life.
Sigfox supports applications around utility meters, track and trace and industrial spaces, among other settings, and powers sensors behind concrete and in underground structures, for instance.
The roaming capabilities acquired will allow Belgium-headquartered Citymesh to support both national and international customers.
In Belgium, ENGIE M2M's network currently connects more than 250,000 IoT devices. Citymesh will add this connectivity and business to its existing Wi-Fi, IoT, 4G and 5G operations.
The ENGIE M2M team and projects under development will transfer to Citymesh too. The value of the acquisition has not been disclosed.
Mitch De Geest, CEO of Citymesh, said: “With this network we can support customers’ IoT projects using a single contract anywhere in the world.”
In December 2020, Citymesh saw Cegeka take a majority stake in the firm. De Geest said: “Citymesh focuses on installing, monitoring and connecting sensors. From that point on Cegeka works on the normalisation, consolidation and visualisation of the data to optimise business processes.”
Stijn Bijnens, CEO of Cegeka, added: “ENGIE M2M offers additional possibilities for our IT solutions. We can collect data from our customers via the Sigfox IoT network and our specialists in the field of data science and data intelligence can subsequently help customers use that data in a smart way to make better decisions.”
