Looking at IoT solutions that will span hardware, software and services Dell is clearly aiming to better position itself in the field of Internet of Things (IoT) with the recent opening of its first European IoT lab in Limerick, Ireland, as well as adding resources to form a new product division to focus exclusively on IoT solutions.
The decision to set up its first European IoT lab followed the successful launch of its American counterpart based in Santa Clara, California, which was opened in cooperation with Intel last year. The Dell Solution Centre in Limerick will become the base for the new IoT division and will enable its European customers a dedicated space to build, model, architect and test their own IoT solutions in order to design a better and faster go-to-market strategies. Also, they will be met by Dell’s dedicated solution team of data centre technicians and IoT specialists.

As a part of a shift in a strategy towards IoT, Dell has also released its first IoT division’s product such as Dell IoT gateways securing and processing sensor data at the edge of a network which will then form a foundation, according to Dell, for an IoT edge solutions that conserves network bandwidth by relaying data back to the cloud.
The next element of IoT strategy is to deliver total IoT solutions that would embrace datacentre solutions, analytics and leadership services. For this end, Dell Services and ThingWorx, a provider of the IoT platform, have teamed up with a joint goal to assist the customers with transformation towards IoT solutions. Under the deal, both companies will leverage each other’s technology and business expertise aimed to reduce the time, cost and risk while building IoT applications. Additionally, Dell’s Digital Business Services will enter ThingWorx’s Global system Integrators Alliance Parogramme, it says.
