European comms software specialist bought

US-listed CSG International has bought some key assets of Volubill, a supplier of integrated real-time policy and charging solutions to mobile, satellite, and fixed broadband operators, with mainly European customers.

US-listed CSG International has bought some key assets of Volubill, a supplier of integrated real-time policy and charging solutions to mobile, satellite, and fixed broadband operators, with mainly European customers.

Volubill products, which are used by service providers to bring to market and monetise digital, communication-based services, will add to CSG’s current billing and revenue management portfolio.

“CSG’s global strength, credibility, and coverage will enable Volubill products to reach a much wider market than was possible for Volubill alone,” said John Aalbers, CEO of Volubill. “We are very pleased to become part of the CSG family.”

“As communications service providers around the world seek to uncover more profitable revenue streams by monetizing network data and providing an improved customer experience, charging and policy become central components of integrated global service delivery,” said Karl Whitelock, director of global OSS and BSS strategy at Stratecast. “CSG is meeting this growing need by augmenting its capabilities across the monetization process with, policy, charging, and service optimisation.”

CSG currently provides comprehensive software, technology, and services solutions to more than 500 global communications clients. Assets acquired will allow CSG to rapidly expand its charging and policy reach and expertise while providing a path to innovative new capabilities and services, it says.

“Our clients are always looking for the most effective ways to maximize the value from the data and traffic that travel across their networks, and Volubill was an early innovator in that space,” said David Heaps, senior vice president of business strategy at CSG. “Volubill’s well-respected brand and broad client installations will bolster CSG’s own expertise in revenue management, service personalization, and customer management.”
