Gianpiero Lotito (pictured) has become the president of the European Tech Alliance. He follows Niklas Zennström of Atomico and co-founder of Skype, who had been president since the Alliance's inception in 2015.
Lotito is the founder and CEO of FacilityLive, a European search platform. The European Tech Alliance represents tech voices across Europe, raising with policymakers the practical issues which represent important barriers or opportunities to building Europe’s digital market.
Members of the Alliance regularly meet with European Commissioners, government representatives and members of the European Parliament and of national parliaments, to help shape policies around the Digital Single Market, including AI, consumer protection, copyright, data flows, data protection and other areas.
The Alliance is comprised mainly of tech scale-ups that were born or built in Europe. Membership includes BlaBlaCar, Booking.com, Klarna, Soundcloud, Spotify, Taxify and Transenter.
Lotito said: “I will represent the most innovative voices with a global vision that we have in Europe. After many years as a follower, Europe is back as a global magnet for innovative technology companies. Despite some political uncertainty – such as Brexit - it remains clear that the European tech industry is a strong force and will become stronger in the years to come.”
