ExcelRedstone acquires major Irish networking specialist Kedington

ExcelRedstone has acquired Kedington, one of Ireland’s largest IT network infrastructure solutions companies. ExcelRedstone itself was formed in June 2018 through the acquisition by Excel IT of Redstone Converged Solutions and Commensus from RedstoneConnect plc. It specialises in the smart building and data centre markets.

Kedington operates from offices in Dublin, Cork and Limerick in the Republic of Ireland, and has offices in Derry and Belfast in Northern Ireland, along with one in Copenhagen. It provides active and passive IT network solutions, structured cabling and data centre engineering services to organisations of all sizes in the public and private sector.

“The addition of Kedington sees ExcelRedstone further strengthen its position across the UK and Ireland, as well as expanding its presence in mainland Europe and beyond,” said ExcelRedstone.

Services within Ireland and for existing Kedington customers will continue to be delivered through the Kedington brand. Kedington had sales of €21m in 2017 - up more than 50% on the previous year - and made over €1m in pre-tax profits.

ExcelRedstone chief executive officer Barry Horgan said: “There is a clear and compelling alignment between ExcelRedstone and Kedington. By bringing these businesses together we are creating a market-leading company that will offer a well-established customer base a wider range of services as we leverage all the expertise within the expanded group.”

He added: “With Kedington’s strong position in the vibrant market in Ireland, plus additional European footholds including routes into the Nordic economies, we are also building a robust platform from which ExcelRedstone/Kedington can become a leading IT infrastructure provider across the EMEA region and beyond.”

Kedington managing director Matt Porter said: “We have built Kedington into a business which counts among its customers some of the world’s largest corporate enterprises and data centre technology providers. However, we recognise that these customers increasingly need partners capable of fully supporting them as they grow, not only in Ireland but globally.

“As part of ExcelRedstone, Kedington will now be able to provide our customers with the scale, breadth of capability and international dimension that they now require.”

ExcelRedstone has offices in London, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Frankfurt. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
