France-headquartered cloud and IT services firms Atos and Capgemini have published their year-end results, illustrating to varying degrees how they have toughed out the pandemic.
Atos reported that annual sales for the year ended 31 December dropped 3% to €11.1bn, and that operating profits dipped from €1.1bn the previous year to €1bn this time.
Sales were pretty evenly spread across the territories, although only Northern Europe showed sales growth - of under 1% - while Central Europe (-2.3%) and Southern Europe (-5.6%) dipped. North America saw revenue fall over 6%.
At year-end December 2020, the Atos total headcount was 104,430, down by 2.4% compared to 106,980 at the end of June 2020, and down by 3.6% compared to December 2019. Meanwhile, at Capgemini, reported sales for the year-ended 31 December 2020 were up 12.2% to €15.8bn, helped by the completed acquisition of industrial technology services firm Altran in April 2020. The operating profit for the year increased 5% to €1.5bn. Sales in North America were up 8%, up 7% in the UK and Ireland and they increased 14% in France. Rest of Europe sales were up an impressive 24%.
At 31 December 2020, Capgemini's total headcount stood at 269,800, up 23% annually, mainly following the integration of Altran staff.
