Huawei has announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Portugal’s Agency for Trade and Innovation (AICEP) which is aimed to establish a partnership for the development.

Under the terms of a deal, Huawei will fund annual training for Portuguese universities students. The programme is dedicated to the areas of ICT and for the best students in Informatics, Electronics and Telecommunications who plan to contribute in the future to a technology research and telecommunications field.

Huawei has been present in Portugal for almost a decade and at the moment hires about 100 people at its headquarters in Lisbon with further 200 indirect jobs through its network of partners and service providers. Additionally, in 2012 it set up a Technological Support Centre in Portugal to enhance the support and implementation of local projects and develop technical competencies.

The local customers include top Portuguese telecom operators such as Portugal Telecom, Vodafone, Zon and Optimus, it says.
