Intel's data centre sales are lower than expected

Intel shares are down-2.8% as its Q2 data centre sales missed estimates.  Overall results beat EPS and revenue estimates with a 15% Y/Y revenue growth. Q3 guidance has revenue from $17.6bn to $18.6bn. Raised FY18 guidance has upside revenue from $68.5bn to $70.5bn.

Business unit results: Cloud Computing, $8.7bn (+6% Y/Y) ; Data Centre, $5.5bn (+27% Y/Y;  IoT, $880M (+22%); Non-Volatile Memory Solutions, $1.1bn (+23%); Programmable Solutions, $517M (+18%).

Key metrics: Gross margin, 63% (flat); R&D spend, $3.37B; MG&A spend, $1.7B; operating income, $5.3B; tax rate, 9.5%; cash from operations, $7.4B; dividends paid, $1.4B; share repurchases, $3.9B.
