Microsoft is moving forward with plans to build a ‘hyperscale’ datacenter near Leeds after purchasing a 48-acre site from Harworth Group for £106m.
The site, formerly home to Skelton Grange power station, is part of Harworth's development of an 800,000 sq. ft industrial and logistics hub southeast of Leeds city centre.
The completed project will feature 250,000 sq. ft of Grade A industrial space, including the data centre, a battery BESS facility, an energy-from-waste (EfW) facility, and 28 acres dedicated to natural habitat restoration and green travel infrastructure.
Harworth expects the development to attract over £4 billion in investment, boosting the local economy. Harworth will retain 16 acres for 250,000 sq. ft of employment space.
Lynda Shillaw, Harworth Group's chief executive, said: "This transaction further builds our expertise to include data centers and evidences the growing spectrum of industries that continue to be attracted to the schemes that Harworth brings to the serviced land market."
