A new company aiming to allow enterprise customers and service providers to get the most out of object storage is coming out of stealth next month, and is looking for channel partners.
CunoFS by PetaGene promises to enable organisations to “quickly and easily” broaden the usage of their object storage to better run their apps, files and services.
It wants to replace slower and more expensive cloud file storage systems, for instance.
“Many customers already use a lot of object storage but apps are unable to directly use it”, says the firm.
Cambridge, UK-based PetaGene currently employs 14 and has raised over $4m in funding, and plans to fully launch cunoFS in July as part of a free trial.
The firm started as a biosciences specialist focusing on genomic data storage, and has applied the ideas behind that segment to traditional file and block data management.
Dell Technologies is said to have fully evaluated the cunoFS software, and has given it positive feedback based on its data performance.
At the IT Press Tour of Berlin this week, PetaGene said it was currently focused on enterprise sales, and already has early engagement with some object storage partners and regional resellers in Europe.
Vaughan Wittorff, PetaGene co-founder and chief commercial officer, told IT Europa at the event: “We only have a small sales team who aren’t going to be knocking on doors, we need resellers and other partners to help scale our sales reach.”
Data volume under management will drive the enterprise pricing, and small volume per terabyte pricing will follow.
