Publicis acquires major software services company

Euronext Paris-listed Publicis Groupe has acquired Tremend, one of the largest independent software engineering services companies in Central and Eastern Europe.

Tremend currently reaches 60m of its clients’ end users with its technology, and will now serve as the newest global delivery centre for Publicis subsidiary Sapient.

Publicis Groupe provides marketing, consulting and digital transformation services and employs around 80,000 worldwide. Publicis Sapient is the digital business transformation hub of the group and has 20,000 staff across 50 offices globally.

Based in Bucharest, Romania, Tremend (location pictured) supports the software development needs for the likes of Carrefour, ING and Orange. It employs 650 software engineers. Publicis Sapient clients have included Nestlé, Nationwide Building Society and British Gas.

“Bringing Tremend into Publicis Sapient is a powerful expansion of our global distributed delivery model, and we expect to rapidly grow headcount to 2,500 people [at Tremend] by 2025, as well as our geographic footprint in the region,” said Nigel Vaz, CEO of Publicis Sapient.

Tremend founders Ioan Cocan and Marius Hanganu added: “Joining forces with Publicis Sapient will help propel our combined organisation forward during a time when our clients are calling upon us for some of their most important and challenging initiatives to date.”

“After the innovative joint venture launched with SCB in December in south-east Asia, this is a new step in the international expansion of Publicis Sapient,” said Arthur Sadoun, chairman and CEO of Publicis Groupe.

The value of the Tremend acquisition has so far not been disclosed.
