Scale Computing sees long term efficiency change due to crisis

In March, Scale Computing says it pivoted to assist customers with urgent needs to enable their employees to work remotely. Customers have shown great interest in both the short-term solution, as well as investing in a broader VDI solution once immediate IT needs are met. This could imply a longer term switch to more resilient systems. 

Scale Computing closed out 2019 with growing sales, a slew of award wins, new partnerships and product announcements. This momentum has continued, and Q1 2020, driven by its growth in the edge computing space, has delivered record quarterly revenue with a growth rate of over 30% year over year, it says. The numbers are being driven in particular by the manufacturing, healthcare and grocery verticals. There is also increased interest from local government and education customers. 

“Q1 was a challenging quarter for everyone, but more than ever customers see the need to do more with less due to tighter budgets as a response to the economic slowdown, resulting from global shelter-in-place orders. Scale Computing’s self-healing, autonomous application infrastructure is playing a key role as customers adapt to the new normal. Ease of use, remote management and total cost of ownership matter more now than ever,” said Jeff Ready, CEO and co-founder of Scale Computing.

On the impact in Europe in particular Johan Pellicaan, VP & Managing Director EMEA at Scale Computing tells IT Europa: "With the current situation around COVID-19 instigating lockdowns in many countries, people are, of course, not travelling. And, when they do have meetings, these are hosted virtually, and are often shorter. All of this is saving everyone’s time – by not being stuck in traffic or spending lots of time on small talk – which in turn, is improving overall availability. We are finding that communication with partners is indeed faster and easier for the most part." 

On its planned growth of channels: "Scale Computing isn’t actually finding there to be a slowing down when it comes to onboarding new partners. We are onboarding them as before – there hasn’t been any delay. It’s really important to us that we continue to provide the excellent service that partners receive through being part of our Scale Computing Partner Community, even through difficult times such as these."

"Current circumstances are forcing people to do things differently, and I think the whole situation will very likely have an effect on how things are when we do go back to ‘normal’. I’ve always told people only to travel if absolutely necessary, but I think as people are working from home globally right now, it’s proving that face-to-face meetings aren’t always necessary. I think organisations will learn from this situation and will become more efficient with their time and resources – i.e. investing in solutions like edge computing and VDI that can enable employees to work from home when needed, at the flick of a switch."
