Tech Data appoints director of environment and quality compliance

Following the recent appointment of Adam Rutstein last week, Tech Data has announced that Kevin Wragg will be stepping into the newly created role of director, environment and quality compliance.

Wragg (pictured), an experienced member of Tech Data’s senior leadership team, will help the firm carry out its plans to minimise its environmental impact and move toward net-zero carbon.

“There has never been a better time to embrace the energy and passion that exist around moving towards net-zero carbon,” Wragg said. “Also, at some point, customers and vendors are going to want to know where Tech Data is on its journey and ask us to demonstrate our environmentally-friendly actions and processes. We want to get on the front foot now and do what's right for our customers, vendors, Tech Data and our planet.”

Wragg will be working in all areas of the business on actions and initiatives with the hope of taking Tech Data towards the attainment of its objectives.

David Watts, senior vice president of Tech Data, UK and Ireland, added: “Climate change is the most pressing issue facing us all. With this key appointment, Tech Data UK and Ireland are making a firm commitment to achieving net-zero carbon and driving the sustainability agenda. We see this as a vitally important part of our strategy going forward.”

In addition, Wragg will be working with teams across Tech Data to apply ISO standardisation of practices and processes. Tech Data says it already has ISO9001 in place at its logistics centre in Magna Park and is planning to implement these standards throughout the UK business and to also apply the ISO14001 standard for Environmental Management Systems.

He will also be responsible for ensuring that Tech Data meets all of the necessary regulatory requirements for Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment recycling (WEEE) and disposes of electrical and electronic equipment, both ethically and efficiently.

Tech Data says it is working with Arete Zero Carbon, a net-zero carbon consultancy firm, to understand its current carbon footprint and put plans in place to accelerate towards net-zero carbon.
