Italtel, the telecommunications company, has signed a global agreement for commercial cooperation and industrial collaboration with Tech Mahindra, an India-based multinational company specializing in IT services and solutions. Tech Mahindra is working with a number of European telcos, last week winning a European IT Excellence Award through its work with BT.
Under this new agreement, Italtel is aiming to significantly expand its IT portfolio and improve its catalogue of products and solutions. Tech Mahindra wants to get into the Italian market and will use Italtel’s market footprint in the region. This is the first agreement it has made with an Italian company. “The agreement with Tech Mahindra is particularly important for us,” said Italtel’s CEO Stefano Pileri. “From an industrial perspective it allows us to accelerate the development of our portfolio and time to market, both crucial factors in a highly competitive market. For a player like us, with a very strong footprint in the network and infrastructure segments, the agreement is intended to expand our presence in IT, a sector which is gaining more and more relevance in regards to the evolution of networks towards virtualisation.
In the Italian market, Italtel and Tech Mahindra will define an IT product portfolio, including, Operation Support Systems (OSS) and Business Support Systems (BSS), to sell to service providers and enterprises. The agreement will allow Italtel to reinforce its market positioning in the IT sector and Tech Mahindra to connect with all Italian telecom operators and major enterprises, expanding its presence in Italy by acting as a system integrator for Italtel’s solutions.
“The partnership with Italtel is absolutely strategic for Tech Mahindra,” said Sandeep Phadke, Head of Continental Europe at Tech Mahindra. “It comprises two parts; faster product engineering and joint go-to-market for some of the largest strategic customers in Italy. The combination of Italtel and Tech Mahindra is unique in the industry because not only does it bring together Telecommunications and IT, but also a deep understanding of the Italian market.”
