UK businesses are struggling to find the right talent needed across the digital, culture, media and sports sectors, a new government survey released last week reveals.
According to the figures from the survey, 21.4% of DCMS sector vacancies were attributed to the skills shortage, lower than 24.4% for all sectors.
It also revealed that 5.2% of DCMS sector businesses have at least one skills shortage vacancy, compared with 5.5% for all sectors.
Additionally, the survey also found that 4.8% of the DCMS sector workforce had skills gaps, with workers considered not fully proficient at their role. This was slightly higher than 4.5% for all sectors.
While the DCMS survey data was collected in 2019, it revealed that 13.2% of DCMS sector businesses have at least one skills gap, equalling the same percentage for all sectors.
The report comes after REC revealed that programmers and software development professionals are one of the fields where worker shortages are most acute, with 68,929 active vacancies between August 23 and 29, 2021.
