Veeam Software says it has topped $1bn in annual bookings and that it is now looking at the wider market for cloud data management.
The software company says it now has more than 350,000 customers, adding new customers at a rate of more than 4,000 each month. At its VeeamON 2019 in Miami, it is talking about Cloud Data Management and changes needed.
“Veeam created the VMware backup market and has dominated it as the leader for the last decade. This was Veeam’s Act I and I am delighted that we have surpassed the $1 billion mark; in 2013 I predicted we’d achieve this in less than six years and we have,” said Ratmir Timashev, Co-Founder and EVP Sales & Marketing at Veeam. “However, the market is now changing. Backup is still critical, but customers are now building hybrid clouds with AWS, Azure, IBM and Google, and they need more than just backup. To succeed in this changing environment, Veeam has had to adapt. Veeam, with its 60,000+ channel and service provider partners and the broadest ecosystem of technology partners, including Cisco, HPE, NetApp, Nutanix and Pure Storage, is best positioned to dominate the new Cloud Data Management in our Act II.”
Initially focused on server virtualization for VMware environments, in recent years, Veeam has expanded on this core offering, delivering integration with multiple hypervisors, physical servers and endpoints, along with public and SaaS-based (Software as a Service) workloads, while partnering with cloud, storage, server, HCI and application vendors.
In January, Veeam launched Veeam Availability Suite 9.5 Update 4, delivering new capabilities that provide cloud migration and cloud mobility, cloud-native backup, data retention, and portable cloud-ready licensing, increased security and data governance. A new “with Veeam” programme will offer partnering with enterprise storage and hyperconverged (HCI) vendors to provide secondary storage solutions that combine Veeam software with storage and HCI infrastructure hardware and management stacks. Solutions have already been announced with ExaGrid and Nutanix.
