Oracle integrates with cloud and SaaS rivals to ease channel and customer ops

Oracle is jointly holding its CloudWorld and SuiteWorld conference in Las Vegas this week, and IT Europa is here to learn how the latest announcements affect the go-to-markets for various channels.

In two interesting announcements that affect the multi-cloud market and the SaaS market, Oracle has signed integration deals with Amazon Web Services and Salesforce, respectively.

Oracle has unveiled the launch of Oracle Database@AWS, a new offering that allows customers to access Oracle Autonomous Database on dedicated infrastructure and Oracle Exadata Database Service within AWS.

Oracle Database@AWS will provide customers with a unified experience between Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) and AWS, offering simplified database administration, billing, and unified customer support.

In addition, customers will have the ability to “seamlessly connect” enterprise data in their Oracle Database to applications running on Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), AWS Analytics services, or AWS' advanced artificial intelligence and machine learning services, including Amazon Bedrock.

In his keynote this afternoon (Tuesday) in Las Vegas, Larry Ellison, Oracle chairman and CTO, and Matt Garman, AWS CEO, will discuss the partnership on-stage, which we will report from.

The new offering provides a low latency network connection between Oracle databases and applications on AWS. This allows customers to benefit from Oracle Autonomous Database, a fully automated and managed Oracle Database service, and the “performance, availability, security, and cost-effectiveness” of Oracle Exadata Database Service, said the firm, while enjoying the “security, agility, flexibility, and sustainability benefits” provided by AWS.

Ahead of his keynote, Ellison said: "We are seeing huge demand from customers that want to use multiple clouds. To meet this demand and give customers the choice and flexibility they want, Amazon and Oracle are seamlessly connecting AWS services with the very latest Oracle Database technology. With Oracle Cloud Infrastructure deployed inside of AWS data centres, we can provide customers with the best possible database and network performance."

In addition to this deal, at SuiteWorld, which has previously been held at a different time to CloudWorld, but which has this week attracted a 7,500-strong crowd in its own right, the Salesforce alliance has been revealed.

NetSuite, Oracle’s SaaS CRM and financial services business, has been enhanced with NetSuite Connect for Salesforce. This integration will support the accounts, products, cash sales, fulfilment, invoices, payments, and other functions of customers of both companies.

When asked about it at a press Q&A, NetSuite CEO Evan Goldberg (pictured) said: “This is an acknowledgment that there are many thousands of Salesforce customers out there that also need to use our products. We may also do the same with other Salesforce products too, like Slack, for instance.”

Both alliances will no doubt make it easier for channel players that deal with products from both companies.
