Dutch specialist in near field communications (NFC) technology NXP Semiconductors has announced a partnership with a Russian provider of contactless mobile payments and mobile services based on NFC-technology CardsMobile, to create together an ecosystem of smart cities in Russia through the technology enabling the connection of mobile payment services.
They will bring together a network of mobile payment services, including retailers, restaurants and the transport systems of three Russian cities: Moscow, St Petersburg and Yekaterinburg.
By joining forces, both companies hope to transform together the Russian cities into secure and smart mobile payment hubs, they say. This includes the new mobile wallet, powered by the NXP NFC mobile transaction solution, which will allow consumers to download their credit and cards to an in-device smartphone wallet application and swipe the smartphone across points of sales throughout Russian cities, reducing in this way the lengthy queues at payment points and ticketing desks.
“NXP is delighted to work with an innovative company such as CardsMobile to create a ground-breaking, secure mobile payments infrastructure across Russia’s major cities. Our collaboration with CardsMobile is built upon NXP’s long-time expertise and leading position in secure mobile payments, as well as our experience in key market segments such as banking, public transport and mobile transactions,” says vice president, business development, NXP Semiconductors, Jeff Miles.
“Today we are one step closer to replacing the traditional wallet in Russia with a secure, smart application that allows customers to replace cash, coins and plastic cards with a mobile smartphone payment application. Secure, connected cities are no longer a vision in Russia – they are a smartphone-enabled reality simplifying the daily lives of customers. We are excited to join the ranks of Apple Pay in changing the future of payments around the world,” adds CEO and co-owner of CardsMobile, Kirill Gorynya.
The mobile wallet will be available on over 40 smartphone models.
