Dramatic growth predicted in German IT jobs

Trade association expects nearly a million more jobs this year

German IT and telecommunications companies are expected to hire around 990,000 people by the end of the year, says the Federal Association for Information Technology, BITKOM.

Over the course of the past two years, the ICT sector in Germany added 47,000 new jobs and 125,000 jobs in the last five years. Having in mind the current pace of growth of the sector, this means the ICT is the second-largest industry in Germany just after the mechanical engineering, says BITKOM.

Additionally, almost 86% of German IT service providers and 84% of software companies expect further growth.

“The high level of innovation and the rapid growth in the German ICT market makes it extremely attractive for foreign companies. The transition to "Industry 4.0" – smart manufacturing – is set to be a major driver for companies in the German IT segment,” says Henri Troillet, an ICT market expert in Germany Trade and Investment.
