Deutsche Telekom is joining rivals in suing the German government over preconditions set for a 5G spectrum auction.
Germany has put emphasis on new market players, which will face less strict conditions on the networks they have to build, allowing them to focus on more commercially attractive urban environments.Major telecoms will need to have minimum data rates of 100 Mbps available in 98% of each state's households by the end of 2022, as well as along major transport paths. Other requirements kick in by 2024.
That's drawn a legal challenge from the bigger players, including Telefonica and Vodafone. Germany already struggles with nationwide 4G, and the new requirements are drawing criticism for the potential to slow the rollout of 5G.
