Oracle has opened a new cloud region in Europe and is planning another one by the end of the year. The expansion is part of its global expansion in cloud connectivity which will enable service providers and enterprises to more efficiently access their Oracle applications while helping to meet local compliance demands.
The company has opened the new European Gen 2 cloud region in Amsterdam in the Netherlands, along with others in Melbourne, Australia; Osaka, Japan; Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and Montreal, Canada.
It is now planning another European opening in Newport, Wales by the end of the year, along with other international openings.
Oracle has now opened 17 Gen 2 cloud regions in the past year and currently operates 21 regions globally - 16 commercial and five government. There are already Oracle cloud regions in London, Frankfurt and Zurich.
Last August, Oracle and Microsoft expanded their multi-cloud alliance in the London region. The collaboration enables customers to interconnect the two companies' clouds and simplify management for IT environments and individual applications that span both clouds.
Microsoft and Oracle plan to make the direct interconnectivity available in additional regions, including on the US West Coast, in a US government specific region, in Asia and in mainland Europe.
