Adam Selipsky (pictured) has been announced as the next CEO of Amazon Web Services, replacing Andy Jassy who was made CEO of the whole Amazon Group.
Selipsky is the CEO of on-demand data analytics firm Tableau, which was acquired by Salesforce in 2019 in an all-share transaction worth $15.7bn. He has been a member of the Salesforce executive leadership team since the deal. He is actually returning to AWS, as in 2005 he was one of the first VPs hired by AWS, running the cloud service provider's sales, marketing and support for 11 years. He became the CEO of Tableau in 2016.
Jassy said: “Adam brings strong judgement, customer obsession, team building, demand generation and CEO experience to an already very strong AWS leadership team. Having been in such a senior role at AWS for 11 years he knows our culture and business well.”
Selipsky will return to AWS on 17 May. Current Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is moving upstairs to concentrate on some of his pet projects, such as The Washington Post and space services.
Both Jassy and Selipsky are expected to be fully ensconced in their new posts by the third quarter of this year after a handover period.
