Working in collaboration with Ericsson and Microsoft, Telstra has begun customer trials for a 5G edge compute solution designed for enterprises.
The end-to-end solution will be able to deliver fast and resilient connectivity, merging Telstra's advanced 5G network, fixed connectivity, Ericsson's Service Orchestration Cradlepoint 5G connectivity device and Microsoft Azure Stack Edge for Edge compute and SD-WAN, all enabled by automation and service orchestration.
The service will be delivered through its managed service and consulting business Telstra Purple, with the telecommunication firm saying it’s also the first of its kind in Australia.
“Our global collaboration now extends to our enterprise customers, and we’re applying a real focus on the use of these advanced technologies to solve customer and industry operational problems,” said Nikos Katinakis, group executive for Network & IT at Telstra.
The company said the application will help customers implement their cloud-first, IoT enablement and advanced analytics strategies.
“These ground-breaking results are being achieved as we develop a combined, automated solution framework for the future,” Katinakis continued. “We are making our network smarter, more resilient and automated while leveraging the benefits and scale of new and advanced 5G network and cloud architectures.”
Construction firm FKG Group is currently using the service to give teams the opportunity to collaborate and make decisions in real-time across different worksites, the firm said.
