DataCore Software is entering the edge computing market by bringing a new edge storage appliance solution to the European channel, after joining forces with UK-headquartered Symply.
Symply is a subsidiary of Global Distribution, which is one of the channel players selected to distribute the new SymplyPerifery solution, which is powered by DataCore’s object storage software.
SymplyPerifery will initially provide organisations in the media and entertainment industry with a scalable, flexible and secure archive appliance that “integrates seamlessly” with workflows, serving the needs of production, post-production, studios, sports and creatives.
The technology was launched at this week’s IT Press Tour in Paris, which IT Europa attended, and was publicly unveiled this morning, at the IBC media and entertainment technology event in The Netherlands.
“Working closely with Symply and an exclusive set of ecosystem partners, DataCore has developed SymplyPerifery, a solution that provides media organisations with unparalleled workflow archive capabilities,” said Dave Zabrowski, DataCore’s CEO.
Zabrowski (pictured) told the IT Press Tour that the software-based product will also eventually be targeted at other industry verticals after the initial media and entertainment launch, which is expected to include segments like healthcare, retail, manufacturing and education – where many large organisations need to process and manage their data more efficiently at the edge.
The SymplyPerifery appliance utilises DataCore Perifery software specifically designed for appliances and edge devices. This next-generation software ensures rapidly growing content archives are continuously protected and instantly accessible.
"The new SymplyPerifery offering gives DataCore partners and users the choice of a world-class, enterprise-grade, media-optimised appliance, in addition to the current Swarm software-only solution, on hardware of their choice," said Zabrowski.
Partners will help end-users deploy SymplyPerifery on the appliance of their own choosing.
"We chose DataCore Perifery as the engine for our new archive appliance because of its lineage to Swarm, DataCore’s object storage solution. Nothing else came close to offering the same capabilities, performance, scalability and seamless integration," said Keith Warburton, CEO at Symply.
"We designed the SymplyPerifery appliance to support third-party, S3-enabled applications embedded directly from our cutting-edge stack. This combination is a game changer, providing the essential elements needed for asset preservation in a powerful, best-of-breed all-in-one solution."
