Ceph is now a mature open-source software-defined data storage option for cloud and on-premise workloads, and one Germany-headquartered vendor is seeking to build a reseller channel around its Ceph-based offerings.
Ceph provides a unified storage service with object, block and file interfaces from a single cluster built from commodity hardware.
Croit was founded in 2017 and extended its physical footprint from the European region to the US last year, and is now planning a direct move into the Asia market next year.
It sells hardware and software and consulting and training services around Ceph, being a founder member of the Ceph foundation that comes under the auspices of the Linux Foundation.
The company also supports the evolving DAOS storage operating software from Intel, which is targeting the high-performance computing market.
Andy Muthmann (pictured), managing director of croit, told last week’s IT Press Tour in Berlin: “We were previously mainly direct as a go-to-market, but we entered the channel 18 months ago and are now building up our partner base.
“Ideally, by the end of the next 12 months, we would like to have five active resellers across Europe.”
The company’s software is offered under a node-based pricing model, and croit is developing new storage as-a-service and managed storage products.
It has a colocation data centre in Germany and can offer data replication services to customers between Amsterdam and Berlin colocated data centres.
