HP relies on PCs for Q3 growth

HP's Q3 saw top-line revenue growth year-over-year, but this was driven by growth in PCs, helped by XP refresh. Revenue was $27.6bn, up 1% yr/yr. Software, storage and enterprise services didn't do so well in the mix, and this affected the overall margin.

Utilities raise IT spend, mainly on software

Utilities will keep spending on IT in Western Europe, with software rising fastest. According to a new IT spending forecast report published by IDC Energy Insights, total year-end IT spending by Western European utilities is expected to reach $13.5bn by 2018, with an estimated 2013–2018 CAGR of 4.1%.

SGI opens SAP centre in Germany

SGI, now a high performance computing specialist, has opened a new subsidiary called SGI GmbH that will operate as an SAP Centre of Excellence in Heidelberg, Germany as part of a strategic move to more closely support SAP business initiatives. The Centre, which will open by the end of October 2014 will be led by SGI Chief Operating Officer, Cassio Conceicao (pictured), from the SGI corporate headquarters in Milpitas.
