Canada's Converge Technology Solutions has hired ex-Cancom CEO Thomas Volk as it plans an assault on the European market.
Converge is a cloud service provider, security services player and MSP headquartered in Toronto with a presence across North America.
Volk (pictured) walked out on Munich, Germany-headquartered Cancom in January 2020 over a business strategy disagreement, in the midst of its continuing international growth in cloud and managed services.
Volk said on his appointment: “It's an exciting time at Converge as they begin their expansion into the European market and I'm looking forward to being a part of the journey on the company's board.
“I believe my international experience and advisory skills will be an asset to Converge as they take on the new challenge of global growth and expanding their managed services practice.”
Before Cancom, Volk led Dell in Germany, the UK and France and handled worldwide sales at HP. As well as being a director of Converge, he will assume the role of board chairman, replacing Gordon McMillan who is retiring from the board.
“I am honoured to have Thomas, one of Europe's technology elite, join the Converge board,” said Shaun Maine, CEO of Converge. “Thomas' experience in having previously implemented a managed services and European expansion strategy similar to Converge's during his time as CEO of Cancom is invaluable.
“This expertise, in addition to his knowledge from having led teams at Dell and HP, will assist and accelerate Converge in its European expansion and aid in our customers' adoption of managed services.”
Gordon McMillan, co-founder of Converge, will continue to “actively advise the company on its acquisition activities going forward”, said the firm. The European market will now be waiting to see what McMillan's and Volk's moves in the region will be.
Cancom re-entered the UK market in 2018 after it acquired OCSL, and it acquired Irish MSP Novosco for around £70m in 2019. It bought Hanover, Germany-based system house Anders & Rodewyk in December 2020 to spread its services footprint further.
