Cisco buys UK service provider software business

Cisco has announced its intent to acquire Ensoft, a privately-held UK company which provides software solutions for service provider networks.

Ensoft currently develops IOS XR features for Cisco, and will continue to support networking software offered through Cisco. Ensoft has consistently delivered on critical features throughout their technology partnership with them, it says. Within Cisco, the Ensoft team aims to more effectively help accelerate development efforts related to Cisco’s network OS transformation. The acquisition highlights Cisco’s continued commitment to SP customers, it says.

The company adds a "strong talent pipeline," Cisco's Rob Salvagno says; the acquisition is meant to accelerate Cisco's networking software strategy of enabling simplified, scalable, trusted, and automatable IP network infrastructure. The deal's expected to close in Q2 2019, Salvagno says.

Ensoft employees will join Cisco's Service Provider Networking Group led by its SVP and GM Sumeet Arora.
