Internet exchange operator DE-CIX is expanding into the Nordics region to better support service providers. The Frankfurt, Germany-headquartered company will be opening IX (internet exchange) platforms in Norway, Denmark and Finland.
“The Nordics region comprises some of the world’s most highly developed digital markets,” said Ivo Ivanov, CEO of DE-CIX International. “However, the interconnection infrastructure available in the region does not match the digital maturity of the economy there. The region has seen significant growth in data centre investments for the concentration of hosting, storage and cloud deployments, and a high concentration of enterprise and manufacturing presence. It is important for the related interconnection infrastructure to get closer to these investments, to serve the connectivity demands.”
DE-CIX will localise interconnection capabilities, while at the same time integrating them into the DE-CIX European and trans-continental interconnection ecosystem (covering North America and Asia).
For the Nordics move, one of the initial partners that will support it will be Norway-headquartered data centre operator and network provider Bulk Infrastructure Group. It will provide DE-CIX interconnection platforms at its data centres in Oslo and Kristiansand in Norway, and at Esbjerg in Denmark.
“This partnership will further enhance the options for customers to interconnect and access a range of services, in addition to low latency access to major markets combined with the greenest and cheapest energy in Europe,” said Gisle Eckhoff, executive vice president for data centres at Bulk Infrastructure. “We are seeing an increase in demand for low cost, highly sustainable solutions, and with these new DE-CIX Nordics locations we are helping to support that gravity shift north.”
