Logitech has admitted it was in acquisition talks with Plantronics after previous media reports, but it has now publicly confirmed it has abandoned any takeover of Plantronics.
Swiss-headquarterd Logitech said: "In response to media reports and in accordance with Swiss disclosure requirements, Logitech International has confirmed it was engaged in discussions with Plantronics regarding a potential transaction.
"However, those discussions were terminated. Logitech does not intend to comment further."
Both companies have large reseller channels for their wide range of electronics and network connectivity products. Founded in 1981, and headquartered in Lausanne, Switzerland, Logitech International is listed on the SIX Swiss Exchange and on the Nasdaq.
Californian-based Plantronics, famous for its headset range and other gadgets, has confirmed it will remain an independent company. The interest shown in it by Logitech comes after it acquired unified communications and collaboration specialist Polycom for $2bn earlier this year.
The earlier media reports had suggested that Logitech would have had to pay over $3bn to capture Plantronics.
