Edge storage player StorMagic has taken the wraps off a full-stack HCI (hyperconverged infrastructure) software product. With it, it expects to make waves in the channel, amid the ongoing “fiasco” being caused in the VMware partner community after its acquisition by Broadcom, said StorMagic.
There is “significant and growing appetite for this type of storage and compute architecture in the market, in the wake of the significant market churn witnessed this year,” it says.
The StorMagic’s SvSAN software is used to deliver 100% uptime by customers who currently use VMware or Microsoft hypervisors, and is the foundation of the new full-stack solution it has unveiled, SvHCI.
SvHCI, which IT Europa was given a sneak preview of at last month’s Technology Live! Paris vendor showcase for analysts and press, installs directly on new or existing servers, and includes a KVM-based hypervisor, advanced virtual networking, and SvSAN as the storage software layer.
Just like SvSAN, StorMagic SvHCI simplifies operations and delivers high availability for edge and SMB environments with only two servers, while lowering software costs “by up to 62% over VMware”, claims StorMagic.
The company already has around 2,000 customers, and reckons it can ramp this number up further through its channel-only strategy, now including SvHCI for simple block storage deployments at the edge or in branch environments at large companies.
Bruce Kornfeld (pictured - standing), chief marketing and product officer at StorMagic, told IT Europa: “Everything is done through the channel, with distributors and VARs, and we have an OEM relationship with HPE. The new product is software-only, and our partners will sell hardware to be sold with it.”
StorMagic doesn’t currently offer a managed service for its software, “our partners do all that, including GSIs, we could enter that area through MSPs in the future,” said Kornfeld.”
Generally available later this summer, SvHCI is priced starting at $2,049 for a one-year subscription for a single server and up to 2 TB of storage.
StorMagic has also launched an SvHCI Global Beta Program, through which customers and partners can get early access to the software and test it on their own servers.
