UK distributor appointed for AI -based cyber security vendor

Technology used to beat the bad guys which does not rely on threat updates

Stuart Mclure, CEO of cyber security firm Cylance wants to use AI and intelligence to beat the threats. He says that trying to detect and profile the viruses, malware etc as they are detected by using updating scans is ineffective, even though, he says, there are few new such threats and most are developments of existing viruses etc.

The announcement follows a $42m equity investment from new investors, including DFJ, Dell Ventures, Capital One Ventures, and KKR, with the aim of accelerating Cylance’s global market and portfolio expansion.

Stuart Mclure wants enterprises to use AI to beat the bad guys, by looking at behaviour and watching for anomalies. Having built up a large data store in the last few years, he says he can now get well below the expected 0.02 false positive rate that seems to be standard for the industry, and is busy establishing partners across Europe, starting in the UK. He will use two-tier distribution to reach these new partners, having appoint Ignition in the UK, and is looking for others to appoint in the Nordics, Germany and Benelux.

Using algorithms to beat the security threat gives it an edge, he says, since it does not need to be constantly updating its virus profiles; in fact it work on systems that are not directly connected to the Internet, giving it another sales argument. It is available on all platforms and environments, he claims, including the latest ARM-based and IoT systems.

The sort of partner needed is one that is not afraid to talk about both the technology and the relationship with the customer. The use of his software is expanding rapidly, with take-up in both enterprise and SMB, and across all verticals, he adds.

Ignition is his first Channel Provider for CylancePROTECT endpoint protection products for the UK, claiming, as a Channel Security Solutions Provider to specialise in the discovery and adoption of innovative IT security and networking solutions and acting as a distributor. Further appointments in distribution are expected soon.
