Veeam Software says it has crossed the $1.75 billion annual recurring revenue (ARR) mark, and that it has a “super clear path” towards crossing the $2 billion-plus line this year.
Anand Eswaran (pictured), CEO of the company, told partners and customers at his keynote at the beginning of the annual VeeamON event in San Diego, California, that the firm now had over 550,000 customers globally, and had achieved 30% growth year-on-year in subscription and SaaS ARR.
IT Europa later slipped into the partners kick-off meeting after the keynotes, to find out how the partner opportunity for more channel business was growing, but first the technology drivers.
The cloud data management and protection firm sees plenty of opportunities to grow in the current cybersecurity climate. Eswaran said: “Our research show 69% of organisations suffered at least one ransomware attack last year, and that 89% of those attacks targeted their data backups, the very place they use to try and protect their data.
“There’s no point paying the ransom either, as 69% that did, were attacked by the same people again, it is simply a business process for these people.”
Eswaran was joined on stage by Bill Siegel, the CEO and co-founder of Coveware by Veeam, the business unit that helps firms recover from attacks. Eswaran asked him what the most common ransomware was. “The attacks are so regular that the type of ransomware is almost meaningless,” said Siegel. “There is no brand loyalty among these people, the variants are there, but the serious crime groups just see them as going to work in either a blue car or a red car.”
“Our data recovery solutions are five times faster than the others”, claimed Eswaran, and “2024 was our most intense innovation year”.
Anton Gostev, chief product officer of the vendor, laid out how 2025 was potentially set to be another one.
Veeam Data Platform (VDP) 12.3 appeared at the end of last year, and new features for the upcoming V13 will include a new user interface in both white and black mode, a fresh UI for the backup console, and Veeam Continuous Data Protection (CDP) is being extended to any machine – physical, virtual or cloud, with agent-based CDP for Windows and Linux machines.
Among other features, there is also support for VMware vSphere and VMware Cloud Director as replication targets, with additional targets “coming later”, said Gostev. And Veeam Cloud & Service Providers (VCSPs) will be able to deliver Universal CDP-powered services with the existing Veeam Cloud Connect Replication infrastructure.
“With V13, there will be a performance revolution,” said Gostev. “There will be up to 100% improved workload speeds, up to a 50% improved backup performance, and 10x faster and 10x cheaper restores to the cloud.”
He also introduced the Veeam Software Appliance, a 100% software-defined offering that can run on any suitable hardware, located anywhere, and which is protected according to zero trust protection procedures.
VDP V13 will be available in the fourth quarter of 2025, and the software appliance is already in beta mode - there will be a “supported preview” mode in the third quarter.
