Cyber protection vendor Acronis has named technology veteran Paul Maritz as its new chairman of the board, taking over the reins of René Bonvanie.
Maritz (pictured) appointment comes after Patrick Pulvermueller was appointed CEO in July. He was hired two months after Acronis received over $250m (£180m) in funding, bringing the total value of the business to more than $2.5bn (£1.8bn).
At the time, Acronis said it will use the funds to further accelerate growth by expanding its portfolio of natively integrated cyber protection products.
“Paul brings a wealth of experience developing products to meet market demands and take companies to the next level,” said Pulvermüller. “His becoming Chairman represents another step forward for Acronis in solidifying its position as a global leader in cyber protection. Paul’s experience with innovations at scale will help us to continue delivering easy, efficient, and secure cyber protection to service providers and their customers of any size.”
Before joining the Acronis board of directors in May, Martiz served on the executive staff of Microsoft, was the CEO of VMware, and was CEO and founder of Pivotal Software. He is currently an active investor and serves on the boards of several start-up technology companies.
Acronis said Maritz will be responsible for strengthening Acronis’ position in the service provider market as it prepares for significant growth in the future.
The Swiss firm claims to have more than 1,700 employees in 34 locations in 19 countries and over 5.5 million home users and 500,000 companies, among its client roster.
