Vehicle telematics specialist Wialon has officially reached the 3.8m vehicle connectivity mark, across over 150 countries.
The number was promised by the end of this year, at the recently held Telematics Vilnius conference in Lithuania, attended by IT Europa. The firm is now aiming to connect 4m vehicles next year. In September 2022, the company had 3.7m connections.
It currently has 2,500 partners globally, and expects to add another 300 next year, which will help fill the hole left as a result of the Lithuania-headquartered firm deciding to stop selling its technology in Russia in 2022, following the invasion of Ukraine.
Wialon previously had around 1m vehicles under contract in Russia through partners, with this number now gradually being reduced. But there has been solid growth in the rest of Europe, and even faster growth in the likes of the US and Africa.
The GPS tracking and fleet services technology serves industry segments including logistics and shipping, construction and heavy equipment, vehicle rental and leasing, cold-chain transportation, and security.
Aliaksei Shchurko (pictured), CEO of Gurtam, the software development group that runs Wialon, said: “Looking towards the future, we are expecting to see even further growth in specialised and vehicle-focused telematics, particularly when it comes to developments in AI [artificial intelligence].
“AI promises to simplify tedious processes and transform the employee and platform experience.”
Gurtam has a group turnover of around €30m, with about 90% of that revenue coming from the Wialon subsidiary.
