Security vendor McAfee has appointed industry veteran Greg Johnson as its new CEO, effective June 13, 2022, succeeding Peter Leav, who will be stepping down.
The appointment of Johnson comes as part of McAfee's dive into a pure-play consumer protection company, which began following the divestment of its enterprise security business last year.
Under Leav’s leadership, McAfee also recently completed a $14bn sale to an investor group led by Advent International.
“Greg brings more than 25 years of consumer business experience at truly innovative, leading brands,” said Bruce Chizen, chairman of McAfee’s board of directors. “Greg holds an impressive track record of cultivating multi-billion-dollar growth strategies for consumer businesses while delivering increased value to customers. As we continue to build on McAfee’s 30-year history as a global leader in online protection, Greg’s proven expertise makes him the leader of choice to spearhead future growth for the company.”
Johnson joins McAfee as a highly regarded consumer technology leader, having previously served as executive vice president and general manager of Intuit. He has a proven track record of building extensive consumer growth experience in leadership roles at firms like Kraft, Kodak, Best Buy, Gillette, and Advanced Auto Parts. Johnson is also currently on the Qualcomm board of directors.
“The McAfee brand holds an enviable reputation of trust, quality and innovation and I’m excited to lead the company in its next phase of growth,” said Greg Johnson, incoming president and CEO of McAfee. “I’m proud to join McAfee in defending consumers around the world from cyber threats and look forward to leading McAfee at this pivotal time as we accelerate our growth strategy.”
